With electronic technology, if you have a computer and know how to use it, you can get a lot of the material and information you need and you already have most of the tools required for writing and publishing a book. The Internet is a gold mine of information and resources for self-publishers <\/a>and authors. There is a lot of free material and instructions needed to perform many of the writing and publication functions you will need to address during the process of getting a book into print available on various websites.<\/p>\n

The following tips may help you successfully self publish your next book without expending large sums of cash.<\/p>\n

Be fiscally conscious.\u00a0<\/strong>One thing that I strongly recommend is that you never pay for something you can get otherwise<\/i>. Most people have knowledge and skills that others need and want. If you need a service (e.g. ghostwriting, word processing, transcription, editing, graphic and cover design, or printing) that you do not know how to do, barter for it with services you can provide. You might also trade something you have for what you need.<\/p>\n

Never spend anticipated money.<\/strong>\u00a0The last thing you should do is to go into heavy debt or spend money you have not made from your writing.\u00a0Wait until checks have cleared the bank or funds become available from book sales or other initiatives\u00a0before writing a check of your own for\u00a0services or products.<\/p>\n

Use due diligence.<\/strong> Many first time authors fall prey to vendors who charge high prices and require upfront payments. Avoid such arrangements and seek printers and publishers who are more author-friendly. Research the names of potential vendors on the Internet to ensure that you know the going rates for services needed and that the companies or people being considered are reputable.<\/p>\n

Manage debt effectively.<\/strong> Do not take out large loans or mortgages to fund your writing career. There are other ways to generate cash that can be found in many books and on the Internet, which can help you determine a more stable fiscal approach to getting your name in print.<\/p>\n

Search for Resources.<\/strong> Do your research online to identify potential resources or bartering venues. Additionally, by networking with others, you can identify people who have the talents and resources that you need.<\/p>\n

Build a resource network.<\/strong> To save money, it is important for you to get out from behind your computer and meet people at professional meetings, in writers groups, in social settings, or just about anywhere you can think of. Each contact you make can potentially bring\u00a0opportunities to get your book(s) into print at reduced costs.\u00a0Have your business card handy and talk about your project without giving away plots or too much information. You will be amazed how people will respond.<\/p>\n
